Boss BV9978B 7" Indash DVD Stereo

Great looking stereo! Lots of great features as stated in the ad. I am going to cut to the chase and give my negative feedback. The things that are NOT stated in the ad are as follows: 1. Do not lose the remote because you cannot advance your CD playing music / DVD Play / SD Card / USB Input without it with the screen down otherwise you will have to have the screen open and up 24/7. 2. Before I bought it, I had searched for the max size SD card it could hold. I could not find it so it turned out to be no bigger than 1Gb SD card. Does not support 2Gb or high capacity HCSD cards (4Gb or larger). A very poor option for this day and age. Stereo does not incorporate gyros that will shutdown the DVD play while driving. Plays fine on a bumpy road but not too bumpy. Don't fall for the BOSS DVD Black box ad. Just run the brake wire to the ground and it plays fine while driving. Good point is the stereo has audio/video out that you can run a RCA cable to the back seat to an external screen and close the stereo LCD while it plays to the backseat. 3. Stereo does not have enough treble adjustment. You may find the need to invest in a passive EQ to add if you want more high pitches. Supports plenty and almost too much bass at low settings. 4. USB out, you may and will have to buy a mini-USB to USB plug if you want to add a thumb drive (movies play fine from thumb drives. It can read from a 8GB thumb drive). 4. Radio illumination should have multi colors adjustment to tone down the BRIGHT blue to Medium Blue to Soft Blue. The Bright blue is the only setting and is really bright during night driving if you don't hook up the illumination wire correctly. 5. Once again, do not lose the remote. Radio is almost useless without it to do any setting change with the LCD closed. 6. Bluetooth Mic for calls is very weak. Have to almost yell to get callers to hear. Radio should have incorporated an input to install your own mic. 7. Zoom feature, if you're watching a widescreen movie and you, like me do not like the black bars, can zoom in 1 to 2 to get rid of the bars, cool feature. 8. LCD clarity isn't as good as the picture you see on the ad. LCD Is a bit fuzzy even when I just watched Avatar, a high resolution movie. 9. Don't lose the remote. 10. Go back and read the features in the ad and read this again and make your decision. Overall installation, very easy even for a beginner. All wiring leads are clearly marked. Scale of 1 to 10. I give this radio a 4. Check Ebay in a couple weeks and you may find my Boss radio on it for a good price. Have a great Navy day!
