3Not the worst but.....not the best either
By Nomad
To start off, I believe this unit is a pretty good deal for the money if your upgrading from a simple stock radio/cd stereo. The fact that it will play mp3s as well as video is an awesome + and I am looking forward to giving my passengers something to watch on long trips. The unit will not play DVDs while the vehicle is in drive, but, if your a DIY kind of person, this is EASY to bypass by connecting the parking break wire to ANY ground/negative wire in your vehicle. It's ILLEGAL of course, so I'm not telling you to do it. This unit also has lots of ports including a MICRO SD slot(which is accessed by manually removing the faceplate), USB port, auxiliary input, and all the cables on the rear of the unit to hook up a back up camera and amp. The unit itself has a very simple and clean look to it which is nice. The screen is nice and crisp as well. I was a little cautious about the screen resolution before using the DVD playback option, but after popping in a couple of movies, I'm really loving the quality. The sound put out by the BV9965I is also impressive. I could definitely tell that I had a subwoofer. I like the fact that I now have the option of playing media from my MP3 discs/player and DVDs.That being said, this is only an okay unit. The manual has frequent misspellings, broken English, and non-existent words throughout. I read the manual several times and, it could just be me missing something, but I think that a few of the features of the unit are not covered by the manual at all. This is surprising since the manufacturer was Boss. Also, the outside of the box for the BV9965I states that it comes with a trim plate and mounting hardware, however, they were left out of mine. I don't know if I was just lucky, or if this is just how it is packaged. The BV9965I also comes with delays and pauses. The stereo will take awhile to load CD's whether they are MP3 or not and pauses the music when you click on any other option menu from the touch screen, which is a little annoying. There also isn't a clock or time display to speak of UNLESS you change screens from the playback menu on the touch display. This, as stated before, pauses CD/MP3 playback. When you switch back to the playback screen, the unit takes a few seconds or so to resume play. Although this unit has a clean look, it's almost on the verge of simplistic. No frills. Just the basic buttons and a basic head unit display. The wallpaper on the touch display can be changed between 5 defaults though. However, the touch screen is not very sensitive. After two calibrations, I'm still having trouble with the screen recognizing my touch. Sometimes there are delays in the touch recognition. I'll select a menu and nothing will happen for 5 or 10 seconds. This is really tedious, especially when driving. The stereo does come with a stylus pen, which I thought was kinda cool, but it doesn't help much. Another tedious thing to consider is that the remote will not work unless pointed straight on towards the head unit. If I'm casually using the remote while driving, it will not work. I have to put my arm up and back in the space between the driving and passenger seat so that the signal is hitting the sensor dead on. This works well if your back seat passengers are watching a video, but this is something they would probably do while on a road trip and not just sitting in the parking lot, the only way the DVD playback will work, for several hours.I guess what I'm trying to get across is that although the Boss BV9965I packs a lot of features for the price, it does have some drawbacks. Definitely not a top of the line model, this is a good option to consider if you are looking to upgrade from a simple stock radio and want something that will play DVD as well.August 27,2012It's almost been a month now and my opinion still stands. Although I have gotten use to the pauses in playback and mp3 load times, I've given up on the clock all together. The clock setting changes on me randomly, no matter how many times I reset it to the correct time. Sometimes the time will display as 4 pm, sometimes it's 16:00. I can correct the time only to have the clock display the wrong hour five minutes later. Also, the USB is not a true USB port. I think the port on the stereo might be a firewire? port. The stereo comes with a cable with a USB head on one end and the head for the stereo on the other. I can't connect my mp3 player directly into the unit because there isn't a receiving USB port on the stereo.. For the money, it's still a good buy, but one would think they would mention in greater detail the ports of the unit. I did not know the SD slot was a Micro SD until the thing arrived either.

4Overall A Pretty Good Media Player/Radio
By JJT
First of all, make sure this radio fits into your dash. It is definitely a full Din size both in width and depth. I was lucky in that it just barely fit into my Jeep Patriot. Installation was a breeze, but don't expect any help from the manual. The schematic on the unit was easy to understand and the wires were exactly as noted. Once installed, the radio fired up as expected. The screen motion was fine and has easy to understand menus. Bluetooth is a great feature and worked fine. The Ipod feature works flawlessly. I would have given this unit 5 stars if it wasn't for a few items. First of all, be carefull with the install kit you choose for your auto, as the player sits just a little way into the dash (as most radios do). This would normally be OK but the screens' pusher arms can scrape up the dash. A little contact should be OK but it is something to be aware of. As other people have noted with other Boss products, the sound is OK, but nothing to write home about. This really is made to be played loudly. That's where the high wattage comes into it's own. Low volume requires fine tweeking. And the clock is almost useless as it really can't keep time well. But I didn't buy this for the clock. Overall, for the price, you will not be disapponitd.

3Middle of the road... Definitely has some things that need to be addressed
By Ghmerrill
Seeing as how there are very few reviews on this product, I want to give a thorough explanation as to why I only give this stereo a 3 out of 5 stars:Pros:cool factor... most people dont have touch screen car stereoscool factor... motorized slide out 7" screenCD player works flawlessly, although it is dang slow to load a cd and start playingFM radio works flawlesslyBluetooth functionality works flawlessly when paired with my Motorola droid bionic smart phone and plays music just finePlaying DVD movies works flawlesslyok... so I bought the stereo EXPECTING it to do those things, so aside from the "cool factor" items, those are a wash.Cons:anything so far attached via the USB interface locks up the unit, requiring various levels of shut down to return functionality.I tried to attached an Ipod... locked it up and would not function. I tried playing a movie that was saved on a USB flash drive... locked it up, and it would not function... tried again, it started to play, then froze.the microSD card slot is a cool feature, but from a standpoint of movies, it just wont work- same thing happens as the above- the unit just freezes up, or starts to play, then freezes up. I have not tried to play any music saved to an SD card, so i do not know if that will function or not.Niggling complaints:the overall user interface on this device is very kindergarten level. the icons remind me of old school windows desktop icons.fairly slow to move from one function to another.CLOCK! would it be so hard to put the clock where you can see it> the only place it will display the time is on the main screen when you have the 7" screen open, or when the unit is off.So, hope that helps... overall, I'm OK with the purchase, but not overjoyed. As long as the FM radio works, the CD/DVD function works, and it streams bluetooth, it meets my needs. the other functions basically are icing on the cake... that melted away and dropped on the floor, since they dont really function reliably.I should add, that im on unit number two, soon to be number three.... thank god for Amazon returns... the first unit sent had a definite malfunction with the bluetooth... when you were streaming, it would randomly cut out. sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes it would go for up to an hour. the only way to restore it was to actually turn the vehicle off so that it completely cut power to the unit, then it would work fine for another period of time. I returned that one, and ordered a replacement... the S--- for brains that I ordered the second one from here on amazon sent me the wrong unit. I have it installed, and am using it, but am going to return it and hope they send the correct on this time... the one drawback with the returns is that Amazon does not send a replacement for the defective unit, you have to return it, and wait for them to credit your payment method...anyway, as long as you are aware of the above, and the cons are not that big a deal to you, you should enjoy this unit.
